This plant also has no good roots. These "strings" are the insides of the roots. To the right is a closeup of these roots. Notice that the leaves on this phal are beginning to wither. This is because the roots system is incapable of transporting the water to the leaves- not because the owner underwatered the plant.
On the other hand, this orchid has not received enough water. The leaves are somewhat limp and the roots are somewhat shriveled. This is not too much of a problem. Repotting and adequate watering should revive this plant.
To the left you see a cattleya that is too dry. The leaves are withered, as well as the pseudobulbs. Some "wrinkling" is normal; however, this is too much. This plant might have contracted another problem also, as shown by the splotchy leaves. The prognosis for a really healthy, happy plant is not good.
